Our Work

Our hands-on programmes are all about immersing people in their local environment, forming a greater connection to nature.

School Programmes

The best learning happens when students are engaged and having fun—and there's no better way to do that than by getting their gumboots dirty or feeling the salt spray on their faces. Our education programmes for schools are designed to be integrated into classroom learning and offer hands-on, enjoyable experiences that bring learning to life.

If it's oceanic critters, marine restoration, and sea shanties you’re after then look no farther. The EMR programme has got at least two of those things.

The Experiencing Marine Reserves (EMR) programme offers a unique and hands-on opportunity for teachers to immerse their students in the wonders of marine ecosystems.

Designed to complement classroom learning, this programme provides an exciting way for students to engage with New Zealand’s underwater environments through guided snorkelling and educational activities.

Teachers will gain access to resources that support marine conservation education, fostering a deeper understanding of local marine life and the importance of protecting our oceans.

Perfect for primary and secondary school groups, the EMR programme promotes teamwork, scientific exploration, and environmental stewardship, all while enjoying the beauty of New Zealand's marine reserves.

Join us to inspire the next generation of ocean ambassadors!

Can’t decide between marine and freshwater? The Healthy Harbours programme is all about the essential space where these two environments meet.

The Healthy Harbours programme explores the vital link between land and sea through the waterways in the Porirua or Wellington catchments.

This flexible programme can be tailored to include both freshwater and marine elements, depending on your students' interests and learning focus.

Students will embark on an in-depth investigation into their local harbours and estuaries, gaining a deeper understanding of their historical, ecological, and cultural significance.

Through field trips and hands-on activities, students will explore the changes that have occurred over time and the impact these have had on harbour health.

Whether investigating streams within their catchment or snorkelling at local beaches, students will develop a strong connection to their environment. This programme inspires action, empowering students to make positive changes that improve the health of their local harbour and beyond.
