Wai Connection is a national programme delivered by Mountains to Sea Wellington aimed at connecting local communities to their waterways to improve them. We support communities and mana whenua with the knowledge, tools and expertise to monitor and care for their local freshwater places.
Pest Free Pinehaven is a community group looking to improve the environment for the community and all of its natural inhabitants, working as an off-shoot of Pest Free Upper Hutt. Current projects include trapping and kiwi call monitoring. eDNA samples have been collected across the area as well as a spotlighting fish survey and subsequent fish barrier enquiries now that we have an idea of what is and isn’t in our waterways. Next steps are water quality monitoring and restoration planting to return habitat to the catchment
