Matemate Auaha is an intuituve exploration of rimurapa toi using foraged kelp limbs from Whakaraupo and Kawatea (Okains Bay).
Rimurapa is known in Te Ao Maori as the gateway to Rarohenga (the underworld)…naturally thus; the underlying whakaaro of Selena Tapae's exhibition is to express what it feels like to exist in two worlds simultaneously, namely: Te Ao Marama & Te Kore.
