Community Snorkel

*UPDATE 9 FEB* Due to the ongoing situation at Moa Point wastewater treatment plant and the impact this has had to water quality at Taputeranga Marine Reserve, we’ve made the decision to move all scheduled community snorkels away from the South Coast. Dive into a free snorkelling event this summer! Beginners welcome! We provide all the necessary gear and experienced guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment in the water. Participants just need to be at least eight years old and confident swimmers. Those under sixteen must be accompanied by an adult.  

Registrations open at 9.45am. Come down to book a snorkel time for the day, as spots may fill up quickly. Bring your togs, towel, refreshments and make a day of it exploring the activities and environment at Taputeranga Marine Reserve.  

This free event is brought to you in partnership with Greater Wellington Regional Council.

Accessibility

Some of our snorkel sites are more accessible than others- parking, public toilet and wheelchair access details will be updated alongside location updates, keep an eye on this page and our social media. We have a variety of options to enable a more comfortable experience in the water including flotation aids and 1:1 support from our trained guides. Please get in touch with us at events@mtsw.org.nz in advance of the event to discuss your accessibility requirements, including to enquire about beach wheelchair assistance, we love helping people to experience our marine environment!
