Cape Pondweed Eradication
Year 5 and 6 students from St Theresa’s School in Plimmerton have been working to eradicate Cape Pondweed from Taupo Stream over the past year. This is a long-term project to remove the introduced weed from the stream which has been choking the flow and capturing sediment.
The students have also held a planting day to bring together the community to share the work they’ve been doing, and help shade the stream and reduce sediment getting into the waterway.
Clearing the Cape Pondweed is muddy, dirty work – but they love it.
Work parties will be held in 2017 to help the students with their project. Let us know if you would like to lend a hand.
